The Good News of Jesus Christ
God's Purpose
God loves us and has a purpose for our lives. The Bible states
it this way.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)
God's purpose is that we have eternal life.
- We receive eternal life as a free gift.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23)
- We can live a full and meaningful life right now.
Jesus said "...I have come that they may have life, and that they may have
it more abudantly." (John 10:10)
- We will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven. Jesus
said, "... I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive
you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." (John 14:3)
Our Need
As we search for meaning in life, we discover our sinful nature keeps us from
fulfilling God's purpose for our lives.
- We are sinners by nature and by choice. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
- We cannot save ourselves. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift
of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9)
- We deserve death and hell. (Romans
6:23)
God's Provision
God is holy and just and must punish sin. Yet
he loves us and provides forgiveness for our sin. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father except through me." (John
14:6)
- Jesus is God and became man. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)
- Jesus died for us on the cross. "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us
to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit." (1 Peter 3:18)
- Jesus was resurrected from the dead. "...was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised becasue of our justification."
(Romans 4:25)
Our Response
The only way Jesus can affect our lives is for us to receive Him.
The Bible says, "But as many
as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name; who were born, not
of blood, nor of will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (John 1:12,13)
- We
must repent of our sin. "Repent therefore and be
converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." (Acts 3:19)
- Repentance is turning away from our sin and turning to God through Jesus.
- We must place our faith in Jesus. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."
(Ephesians 2:8)
- Faith is trusting in Jesus to save you. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the
dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness , and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)
