The Girls at Cedarwood

The Working Girls at Cedarwood . . .

No Labrador works harder or contributes more to the Cedarwood breeding program than our dams.  They are expected to participate in field, obedience and the breed ring, ultimately passing on their unending desire to please to their puppies.  Energetic, intuitive and loving, they are the foundation of the Cedarwood Program.

Maintaining the girls' physical condition is extremely important in order to compete in the field and obedience ring.  In addition to an ongoing training program, all the Labs get to romp thru the fields and swim in the ponds helping to keep them in great shape.  Being fit helps a Mom birth her puppies and care for them during the first few critical weeks.

Labradors are often shown in the breed ring with more weight than those who regularly compete in the field and obedience ring.  Good condition for the breed ring includes being in show weight and full coat.  Most girls have a limited amount of time each year in which they can be competitively shown.  During pregnancy and several months after a litter they are not able to be competitive in the breed ring.  Above is a lovely photo of Isabella in good weight and full coat just finishing her Canadian Championship Title.
