If family members were surveyed on what constitutes the quintessential
Schleis dish, this one would definitely be in the running.
2 lbs lean ground pork
1 lbs lean ground beef
1 chopped onion
3 eggs
2 slices bread pulled apart in very small pieces
1 tsp paprika
1/2 cup uncooked rice
1 clove garlic chopped fine
26 oz can of tomato sauce
1 can tomato soup
salt, pepper to taste
4-5 small green peppers, cored and cleaned
Mix first eight ingredients well. If the mixture seems too dry, add a little
milk. Fill the peppers. Make meatballs with any leftover meat mixture. Put in large pan and add tomato sauce, tomato soup
and enough water to reach the top of the meat. Cook on low for about 2 hours or until rice in meat is tender.
